Acupuncture for Back Pain
Ahhh….back pain, the nuisance that seems to revisit us throughout life. Most people experience back pain several times during their lives, whether it be from an acute issue or a chronic nag. Back pain can manifest itself in many different ways from neck and shoulder tension to muscular stiffness, to throbbing, shooting or stabbing feelings. It can be in the neck and upper back or the lower back, lumbar spine and down into the buttocks. Wherever it decides to occur, it is never fun and most people want a quick and easy fix to relieve it. Acupuncture can help with that!
Back pain typically begins to manifest due to chronic muscular tension. Let’s face it, we all live busy lives! With families to tend to, demanding jobs, pets, bills, errands, it is hard to fit anything else into life. Therefore, we all have a tendency to neglect ourselves until there is an urgent issue that must be fixed. By that time, the initial pain that we first felt has become much worse and has typically caused nerve and even bone misalignment issues. When the muscles begin to tighten, they start pulling on the back in either direction, in a sort-of tug of war action from side to side. As this occurs, it begins to put stress and strain on the bones of the spine. As the muscles continue to pull, the bones become misaligned and impinges or ‘pinches’ the nerves that extend out from either side of the spine. The nerves then send a message to the brain telling the body that there is a problem. This is communicated in the form of PAIN!
Acupuncture is very helpful because the very thin needle goes to the muscular level and relieves the tension and inTNammation. In addition, at our Acupuncture clinic in Franklin, we start the treatment off with a therapeutic massage. This quickly gets to the root of the tension, allowing the muscles to relax, thus relieving the tension placed on the spine and the nerves. We will also use a modality called cupping which helps to further alleviate tension, inTNammation and gets the circulation moving again in the back.
Treating back pain with Acupuncture is one of our specialties out our Acupuncture Clinic in Franklin. If you have further questions, feel free to give us a call!
